MasterCoaches Remembers Volleyball's East Coasts Legendary Coach Socrates "Scott" Mose

MasterCoaches mourns the loss of Socrates "Scott" Mose, the 1973 recipient of the USAV George J. Fisher Leader in Volleyball. After Scott's playing career he started the Staten Island YMCA's men's volleyball that played nationally for many years. He was also instrumental in starting the USVBA Women's Zonal Program where he Head Coached the U.S. East Zone team. He was the first Rutgers University women's volleyball coach who helmed the program from 1977-1982.

Under Mose's guidance, the Rutgers volleyball program collected a 211-65 record and won the 1982 Atlantic 10 title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Rutgers defeated Penn State in five sets to earn the A10 title becoming Rutgers' first-ever women's program to earn an automatic bid to an NCAA Tournament by a women's team.

Mose was an assistant coach with the US National Team and led the United States National Team for the Deaf to a gold medal in 1985 and silver in 1989. He also was the executive director for the YMCA World Volleyball Camp that trained hundreds of high school athletes yearly.

MasterCoaches Wednesday Weekly BUZZ

We had a mission when we developed the MasterCoaches Wednesday Weekly BUZZ... to provide our viewers a chance to hear from our leaders in our sport who would come on our show to answer questions that address current issues and trends in volleyball.

MasterCoaches dove into the opening weekend by hearing first-hand observations by the MasterCoaches that viewed some of the teams personally as well as looking at how conferences performed across the country. We also highlight some of the upcoming matches that promise to be barn-burners in the coming week.

Finally, we will move into the international game and talk about how our national teams are doing, the upcoming tournaments, and their importance.

On the welcome back MasterCoaches Wednesday Weekly Buzz was on August 23rd and our topic was "NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball". We had a panel discussion with the MasterCoaches on the opening weekend and a host of related items surrounding the women's collegiate game.

MasterCoaches Players Camp

Brodheadsville, PA

August 7-9, 2023

Middle School & High School Students

Registration will be from 8:30-9:00AM in the gym on the first day of each camp. The camp will consist of two sessions per day. The morning session will run from 9:00-12:00.
The afternoon session will run from 1:00-4:30. Campers should arrange to have transportation home by 4:30 each day.

The proper volleyball equipment will help you make the most of your camp experience. This includes volleyball shoes, knee-pads, shorts and t-shirts. If you are going to order new shoes try and wear them before camp begins. This will help reduce problems with blisters.

Each camper is responsible for bringing their own lunch. Bring a lot to drink. Outdoor courts are used at some camps. We recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen or other supplies you think necessary for outdoor training.
If health and safety regulations allow, parents are invited to observe the competition and awards which will be held for approximately the last two hours on the final afternoon of camp.
Please be sure to fill out your Medical Form and Waiver online. You will not be able to participate in camp if this form is not completed.
If there is a balance due, please remit it no later than one month before the start of your camp. You can make this payment using your online account.

College Transfer Showcase

The MasterCoaches College Transfer Showcase is a recruiting event designed to provide collegiate athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the collegiate coaches that are planning to attend the 2023 AVCA Convention in Tampa this December. REGISTER ONLINE!

Registration will begin at 9:00 am CT on Saturday, followed by a short orientation session and individual athlete warm-up. The College Transfer Showcase begins at 10:00 am CT and ends at noon. The showcase will be structured with drills and competitions to allow athletes to showcase their abilities in front of college coaches from across the country.
